PIBC HISTORY
[2001 Church History - October 29, 2006]
The early beginning of this congregation started when Rev. David Warren, then the Language Missions Director for the State of Oklahoma together with Dr. Robert Haskins went to the Office of the Governor to request that the Pacific-American week be observed in this State. The request was granted so a state rally was held at First Baptist Church of OKC.This occasion was attended by various Ethnics of the Pacific rim and several Filipinos pasticipated one of which was Paulita Pluto. This became an eye opener for Rev. Warren to establish a mission among the Filipinos. As it is the right thing to do for the ministry, much prayer went up to God for His guidance and direction as to this vision.
This vision became a reality in the late summer of 1987 when the Rev. Pedro Aquino came and surveyed the Filipino Community in this city. He was brought to a celebration of Philippine American Civic Organization (PACO) called "Barrio Fiesta" and he saw its feasibility, thus arrangements were made to start a Filipino Mission. The Meadowood Baptist was the sponsoring church while the Home Mission Board and the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma would take care of the Pastor's salary. That was how Phiilippine International Baptist Church was born.
Rev. Pedro Aquino served as its first church planter-Pastor. He resigned after five years so the mission was left in the hands of Rev. Warren who was asked to be the interim Pastor for almost a year. Then the Rev. Bernie Gamboa was called to be the next Pastor upon the recommendation of Dr. Jaime Prieto, who was the Filipino Consultant of the Southern Baptist Convention. Like his predecessor, Pastor Bernie resigned after five years. That was in June 1998.
Again, Rev. David Warren became the Interim Pastor but he insisted that they call a Filipino Pastor. The church prayed hard and God answered their prayer in the person of Rev. Fred Sadaba. Coming from a church which he started and organized in Los Angeles, California. Pastor Sadaba and his wife - Nelie responded to the "Macedonian Call" of Philippine International Baptist Mission in 1999.
Three important changes took place that year.
First, we change location. We left the house church at 43rd street and came to this big and beautiful facility on May 2nd. (That was the day before that fierce tornado hit Oklahoma).
Second, we changed our status in the government. We got Incorporated on September 24, 1999.
Then, we became a Constitued Church the foolwing month - October 17 during our Anniversary Celebration.
That change our status from Mission to Church. To God Be The Glory!
The year 2001 is coming to a close. We cannot hepl but lift up our hearts with praises and thanksgiving for God's wonderful works He does in the midst of HIs people - the Philippine International Baptist Church. Years brought hopes and challenges to labor for the Master - the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord is very gracious indeed! The church was blessed spiritually as well as materially. An air condition unit was donated by the Language Missions thru Pastor Ted Lam and the Capital Baptist Association then a more permanent and beautiful church sign will be put as promised by the Capital Baptist Association. Then Mrs. Nelie Sadaba had a health problem after her stroke so her children persuaded them to go back to California.
Then in July 2002, church then move from 31st broadway to 400 Crestmoore Drive in Moore and dedicated the new place of Worship in August 2002. Robert Guillermo got ordained October 20, 2002 and preached until Pastor Rick Belicek came to be the Interim Pastor. Bro Boyd Raymond served as interim pastor for several months until the church decided that they should call a Filipino Pastor. Pastor Warren came and help in whatever way he can and assisted the Pulpit Search Committee in looking for a Pastor. In early 2005 a name came up and Pastor Warren together with the Pulpit Search Committee got in touch with Pastor Paul DeGuzman in California and in March 2005 Pastor Paul came to Oklahoma to preach for the church to which he was voted to be the next Pastor of the PIBC on Easter Sunday of 2005. On the last Sunday of July Pastor Paul and his wife Ofelia came to Oklahoma and accepted the call effective October 30, 2005 which was the Installation Service, 17th Anniversary Service and at the same the birthday of Rev. David Warren.
Since then the Lord has been wonderfully good, Pastor Paul with his wife (Ofelia), with the officers, leaders of the church and the whole congregation surrendered to the leading of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Everyone had been doing their part to let other knows who had been with the church that there is now a new Pastor to lead us. New people have visited this church and hope they will consider this as their home church. Then in the month of July, August, September there have been people that accepted the Lord and been added to the church thru baptism of immersion.
Now we are celebrating our 7th year as a constituted church and 14th years of existing as a body of believer.
And our message is always the same:
DO YOU KNOW THAT YOUR SOUL IS GOING TO HEAVEN WHEN YOU DIE.
LET US HELP BY SHOWING YOU THRU THE WORD OF GOD OF HOW YOU CAN BE SURE
TODAY.
THANK YOU AND HOPE TO WORSHIP WITH YOU HERE AT PIBC IN THE COMING DAYS….
GOD BLESS YOU ALL…
Please come back as often as you can, God Bless
Pastor Paul DeGuzman from California came to Oklahoma and accepted the call of Philippine International Baptist Church to be the next Pastor.
On October 30, 2005 Pastor Paul DeGuzman was installed as the new Pastor of the church, Dr. Tim Russell the Excutive Director of the Capital Baptist Association did the Dedicatory Prayer over Pastor and his wife togther with the church.
Rev. David Warren who was the interim Pastor gave the Installation Message reminding the church to love their new Pastor and support him with their love and help him in the reaching the community for our Lord and Savior Jesus.
